An Extra Hour to Drink...BRILLIANT!

2004-04-14_xx_9:52 a.m.

AP - Phoenix: Wary governor signs 2 a.m. 'last call' bill.

Beginning this summer, Arizonans will have an extra hour to enjoy that last glass of wine or pint of Guinness. With some reluctance, Gov. Janet Napolitano signed a bill Tuesday that extends Arizona's last call for alcoholic beverages to 2 a.m. from 1 a.m. and closing times to 2:30 a.m. from 1:15 a.m.

"Even as I sign the bill, I'm still concerned about the impact it could ave on our citizens, and on state and local law enforcement," Napolitano said. "I want the agencies to keep track of any changes and report back to me in six months."

In an odd twist, she signed the bill on the same day legislators moved closer to passing a bill that would allow people to carry guns into restaurants that serve alcohol.

"We just had an increase to the last call, and at the same time we're considering allowing guns into bars?" said Gerri Anderson of Arizonans for G!un Safety. "That's a really inconsistent public policy."

The passage of the last-call measure, House Bill 2570, is the first time in decades the Legislature has succeeded in changing the state's liquor laws. Napolitano is asking some of the leading law enforcement agencies to closely track the new law. It will become effective 90 days after the Legislature adjourns this spring. Stores also will be able to sell alcohol until 2 a.m.

Now all we need in this state is for Cali to finally quake and shake into the ocean and we'll have ocean front property to drink until 2AM on.

Life is suddenly ok or at least, dearest of diaries, in 90 days it will be a whole lot drunker.
